Staff Engineer¶

A Staff Engineer uses there extensive experience (personal and organisation specific) to decide which high impact problems to solve.

They should take responsibility to decide when to take a tactical or strategic approach to ensure value is delivered in a timely manner.

The role allows engineers to stay deeply focused and practiced in technology, as opposed to changing focus to people management.

Mental Health¶

The autonomy given to a staff engineer to choose the work that they do can be liberating.

This is offset by the responsibility for deciding how to make a significant contribution, a potential source of stress.
