Home-made milk

Home-made milk in a Kilner jar

Home made milk is vastly more cost effective than store bought milk and also uses a lot less packaging and minimal transport costs (from the raw ingredients).

The ingredients can be controlled to tailor the flavor or avoid unwanted sugar, oils or preservatives.

The most effective plant based milks are Hemp Seed, Oat and Soya Bean.

Making milk

Home made milk is quick and simple and requires only a blender, a fine sieve and a storage container.

Blend the ingredients in water and then filter through the sieve into a suitable container.

Some ingredients will require a pre-soaking before blending, e.g. soya beans.

Storing Milk

Kilner jar

Glass clip-top jars with airtight seals are an excellent container to store milk. Jars are made from container glass to provide excellent storage properties.

A Kilner jar is a rubber-sealed glass jar commonly used for preserving food.

Square glass jars are useful for storing in the fridge as they do not role around on the shelf when laid sideways.

Silicon seals for Glass Jars

Glass jars typically come with rubber seals which degrade over time. Replace with silicon rings for a far longer lasting and easier to clean seal.
