May the Forth be with you

May the fourth (be with you) is a celebration of Star Wars.

As it also happens to be a public holiday (bank holiday) in the UK, a few friends and I did a celebratory cycle ride to Chiddingstone cafe for some delicious cake.

During the Chiddingstone ride I again noticed an occasional looseness in the left gear controller. I have noticed this many times before, but only when pushing hard up a hill.

I slightly tightened the bolt that clips the controller onto the handlebars and noticed that the drop part of the handlebar moved when the controller moved.

Loosening the controller and removing the handlebar tape, there was a significant crack. That means a new handlebar is required.

I found a suitable replacement handlebar on Bikeparts and used my loyalty points to get 5 GBP off.

Then I did a little maintenance on the hybrid bike to make it usable for training.

I swapped the larger saddle that came with the bike for a more typical (yet quite old) road bike saddle.

I mistakenly fitted the faulty XOSS sensors to the bike. Although the sensors connected, the cadence didnt report any data to the Wahoo computer. The speed sensor did show data, but the data was occasionally faulty causing Strava to be unhappy with the sync'd ride.

The bike did ride very well, although the saddle was not very comfortable by the end.

I took the Hybrid out for another ride on Saturday and it worked well, although my legs were feeling very sore after sit-ups the day before (on my angled sit-up bench).

I bought some tools and accessories for maintenance and for the Dragon Ride trip.
